1 Million Tables for the Planet
Worldwide, but office is in Savannah, GA, Global, by PlantPowered Foundation (for 1 Million Tables for the Planet)
1 Million Tables for the Planet has brought together over 42,000 people at more than 7,000 registered tables across 160+ countries, showing how sharing a plant-based meal can turn an everyday choice into meaningful, collective climate action.
Project Objective
Our goal is to make climate action accessible to everyone through something we all share: food. We invite people to gather around a plant-based meal, register their table on a global map, and see how their actions contribute to measurable savings in carbon emissions, water and land.
But our larger goal is to help foster a cultural shift. We want people to recognize that their individual actions matter, that millions of others share their concerns, and that together we have the power to make a meaningful difference. By bringing families, schools, restaurants, organizations and communities together, we're building a global movement that fosters connection, hope and a renewed sense of personal and collective agency.
Background
Our global food system accounts for roughly one-third of greenhouse gas emissions, yet many people don't understand the connection between food and climate change. Meanwhile, global surveys show that 80% of people want stronger climate action, and 69% are willing to contribute part of their income to address it.
We've identified three gaps that help explain why concern doesn't always translate into action: a knowledge gap about food's environmental impact, an efficacy gap where people underestimate their ability to make a difference, and a perception gap where people underestimate how many others share their concerns.
But lasting cultural change also requires understanding what people need. In today's world, people are searching for connection, meaning and hope. Climate action can help fulfill those needs rather than compete with them.
1 Million Tables for the Planet brings these ideas together through something familiar and welcoming: a shared plant-based meal. Our global map and climate impact calculator make participation visible and measurable, helping people see that they're part of something larger than themselves. We address an environmental challenge while meeting a deeply human need for belonging, purpose and collective agency.
Implementation Plan
Participation is simple: register your table at 1milliontables.org, enjoy a climate-friendly plant-based meal, and join a growing global movement. (For Rotary participation, the web address is: [https://1milliontables.org/rotary-tables/](https://1milliontables.org/rotary-tables/))
Our invitation is “Your table, your way.” A table can be one person eating alone, a family dinner, school lunch, restaurant meal, community potluck, or weekly Rotary meeting. There are no prescribed menus, dietary commitments or judgments. The only requirement is a plant-based meal.
Each registration appears on our live global map and adds to a climate impact calculator estimating carbon emissions and water saved. A free toolkit provides invitations, recipes, conversation starters and ideas for making the experience meaningful. An optional email journey offers recipes, practical tips and encouragement for those exploring plant-based eating at their own pace.
Participants can share their Table Stories, bringing the people and experiences behind the numbers to life. A meal in one community becomes part of a visible effort spanning countries and cultures.
Together, the map, calculator and stories show that individual choices matter, that we're not acting alone, and that simple, shared actions can help build the connection, meaning and hope the world so desperately needs, while at the same time, helping the planet.
Main Activities
Engage individuals, schools, restaurants, Rotary clubs and communities worldwide in plant-based climate action.
Provide free toolkits, recipes, email support and resources to make participation easy and welcoming.
Track participation and estimated carbon and water savings through our global map and live climate impact calculator.
Build partnerships and raise awareness through Table Stories, Google Ad Grants, Meta ads, social media, educational presentations and events, including Rotary Earth Talks and the Reducetarian Summit.
Outcomes
Since launching in April 2026, 1 Million Tables for the Planet has registered 7,415 tables involving 43,479 participants across more than 160 countries and territories, including over 500 restaurants and 40 schools.
Our live climate impact calculator estimates savings of 58.3 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e) and over 4.1 million liters of water compared with typical omnivorous meals. That's equivalent to approximately 144,000 miles of driving avoided. These estimates make the collective environmental benefits of everyday food choices tangible.
Behind the numbers are extraordinary stories: Buddhist monasteries in China, schoolchildren in Greece, students in Tanzania and Sierra Leone, a school in India where 1,000 students pledged to eat more plant-based meals, and three generations of a family gathering in Australia.
These results show how a simple, accessible action can unite people across cultures and generations while creating measurable environmental benefits and a growing sense of collective agency.
Partnerships
Our vision is to reach one million tables worldwide, creating a visible demonstration of how small, everyday actions can add up to meaningful global change.
We're expanding partnerships with schools, restaurants, Rotary clubs, environmental organizations and community groups, making it easier for them to bring 1 Million Tables for the Planet into their existing activities. Through Rotary's international network, we hope to encourage clubs everywhere to make plant-based meals part of their regular meetings and community events.
Our upcoming "Make Monday Count" campaign with Meatless Monday Global will invite people to put their plant-based meals on the map during COP31 in November 2026.
Sustainability Vision
Our vision is one million tables worldwide, but a plant-based meal is only the first step. Our larger goal is to build awareness of the connection between food and climate, encourage continued participation, and help climate-friendly choices become part of everyday life.
We're expanding partnerships with schools, restaurants, Rotary clubs and community groups to make plant-based meals part of existing activities. A Rotary club offering them at weekly meetings, for example, can help establish a new normal and inspire others.
On Monday, November 9, the opening day of COP31, we're joining Meatless Monday Global to launch “Make Monday Count.” By connecting its grassroots movement with our global map and climate impact calculator, we'll make the collective power of a familiar weekly action visible. People everywhere can put their plant-based meals on the map.
We'll continue sharing Table Stories, supporting participants and reaching new audiences through partnerships and events.
One million tables is a milestone, not an endpoint. Our ambition is lasting cultural change that builds connection, meaning, hope, shared purpose and a renewed sense of personal and collective agency
